Today in speech class we were supposed to come up with ideas about what we want to write about and then discuss with class mates around us. So I had some stuff written down but was having trouble thinking up another idea and I asked my classmate a few desks away what she was writing about and she asked me to tell her what idea I had first and the entire class was dead silent while I spoke.
and it was really REALLY loud before.
It was really weird. And I know this question is confusing…but I just dont understand why everyone went all quiet when I spoke…I know for a fact my voice is not weird but cant think of another reason people would stop talking.

Who knows?! Sometimes there are lulls in conversation. What was your question? Was there anything else going on in the room? Did the teacher do something? Did something happen outside the window? There are so many reasons that it could have happened. Im sure your voice is fine.

It was probably just a lull in the conversation. I had that happen once exactly when I went to crack my back. It popped all the way up, and everyone in the classroom stared at me.
Another possibility is that you were so busy talking to her that you didnt notice that the teacher had asked everyone to stop talking. Whoops.
Maybe you said something weird. Or it could just be everybody stopped talking at the exact same moment you started talking. This is a really dumb question to ask, as we werent there, and you could of figured it out for yourself.
Maybe it was what you said or the fact that you were talking over a few desks which can be disruptive. Etiquette would call for going to your friends desk and having the conversation face to face.
either they are just exceptionally nosy…or they assumed you would have a really great idea they could steal!
When smart people speak…people listen.
